Director, Anne-Francoise Gavanon features in BBC Documentary ‘Picasso - the Beauty and the Best’
The man, the genius, the myth, the misogynist: the many sides of Pablo Picasso’s life and work were explored in ‘Celebration Picasso 1973-2023’ commemorating, over a year, the 50th anniversary of the artist’s death.
We are delighted that our Director, Anne- Francoise Gavanon has featured in ‘Picasso: The Beauty and the Beast’, a 3-part BBC documentary directed by John O’Rourke and available on BBC iPlayer. Brilliantly contextualising the ever difficult subject of Picasso and women in particular, along with some well-balanced remarks by Anthony Penrose, John and his team at Minnow Films did an amazing job at recovering footage and archives rarely seen.
Alongside her work, Anne-Francoise has developed a practice as an independent art historian specialising in Pablo Picasso. For a complete list of research projects see her publications here.
Anne-Francoise has written for museums in France - MuCEM in Marseille, La Piscine in Roubaix, Musées Nationaux de Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur, in London, the Royal Academy and curated a Picasso exhibition for Remai Modern in Canada. Her next phase of research will be in Spanish and will discuss the interplay between Picasso prints and ceramics and will be published by the Fundación Casa Natal Picasso in Málaga, Spain.
